Separating the Assam valley from the plains of Bangladesh, hilly Meghalaya, the 'abode of clouds,' is a cool, pine- fresh mountain State set on dramatic horseshoes of rocky cliffs.Cherrapunjee and Mawsynram are statistically among the wettest places on earth. The village of Mawsynram in Meghalaya receives 467 inches of rain per year. The state holds a world record of receiving highest rainfalls in the world. This leaves the hills creating very impressive waterfalls and carving out some of Asia's longest caves.The Shillong peak is highest in the state and is good for trekking, and is also known as Scotland of the East.
